Family Friendly Trips and Days Out

    Eurocamp France

As a young child, we travelled to Europe with my parents to stay with Eurocamp. I have the fondest memories of our travels and adventures with my family. I wanted to recreate these memories for my own children and let them experience a taste of the life that I had as a child. Our first trip was 4 years ago and we travelled to a France. We have now been on holiday as a family 4 years in a row with Eurocamp. For us, it’s by far the best option for a holiday. Having a large family flying and booking apartments is extremely pricey but with Eurocamp, we can all travel and stay together. Plus its super family friendly and offers us all that we need. Travelling with small children means you need to take the kitchen sink with you. With Eurocamp, we can pre-book bedrails, potties, highchairs, changing mats etc, all to make our trip easier from the off.

    Planning Our Trip

    Dover to Calais Ferry

    Dover to Calais Ferry

As we live in Northern Ireland we had to book 2 ferries, one over to the UK and then the other from Dover to Calais. The Landbridge ferry can be booked through Eurocamp and offers a great saving. We purposely picked a Campsite that was closer to the ferry on our first trip to limit the amount of car time for the children. Calais to the campsite was a 2-hour car journey, although there aren’t many service stations along the route there are Toilet and Picnic stops, which after having a full meal on board was all that we required. In choosing La Croix Du Vieux Pont we also gave ourselves the option to travel to Euro Disney which is an hour from the Camp

    Berny-Rivière

We had printed directions off before leaving Belfast but we relied on our Sat Nav to direct us to the site. It was very easy to find and is just located outside a small village called Berny-Rivière. The Village has a lovely selection of shops including a Chemist and large Supermarket which was withing walking of the campsite. You could easily stay in this location and not travel and further out as you have all you need locally. The Village also hosts a Market frequently and its so lovely to walk around and get a feel of the French way of life.

Arriving at La Croix Du Vieux Pont

When entering the campsite we followed directions to the EuroCamp hut. We were greeted by some lovely Reps who detailed the areas the of the camp and showed us to our Caravan. Prior to going, we had selected a Caravan beside the fishing lake. Each caravan was separated by a hedge which allowed full privacy, with a circular section cut out to allow direct access to the lake itself. It was the perfect location for us. As we were staying with small children Eurocamp provided a decking gate. I was so pleased that they had considered the safety of small children and also allowed the children the freedom of being able to potter around the decking with me knowing they could not escape. We had chosen a 3 bedded Caravan which allowed us to pop up the babies travel cots in 1 room, leaving Lucas to have the bunk beds and us the master bedroom. We also added the bedding option on to our package, our sheets were waiting for us upon our arrival as well as the welcome goodies we had ordered, giving us the bare essentials to get us started.

Eurocamp La Croix Du Vieux Pont

La Croix Du Vieux Pont is one the largest Eurocamp sites available in France. It really does offer you all that you need for your stay without having to travel around much. There is a full restaurant, bar, shop, takeaway and bike hire. Not forgetting the swimming pool which is fabulous and houses an indoor area, children’s pool, splash park, slides and lazy pool. To add to this the park also hosts a swimming lake, with man-made beach. As I said before our caravan was located beside the fishing lake, play park, large trampoline and pedal boats which we loved. There are also numerous kids clubs ranging from toddlers to teens, staffed by the EuroCamp kid’s team, which keeps all the family happy.

We did make the trip to Disney ourselves, we wanted to combine a pool holiday with an exciting day for the children. Euro Disney is only an hour away from the camp and you can travel direct, or make use of the camp’s bus which travels there daily.

Chateau De Pierrefonds is located close the camp and I would highly recommend a visit. It’s absolutely magnificent and was also used as a film location for Merlin. You can freely walk around the inside and get a feel of the large Medieval Chateau which hosts turrets, towers and a moat.

    Overview

If you want a little bit of luxury whilst camping Eurocamp is the way to go. There are so many options to pick from including Safari Tents, Tents, Caravans and Lodges. The staff are very attentive and are never bothered by questions or any issues that may arise. The area is fantastic and you have all that you need locally if you want a more relaxing holiday. The Takeaway offers a large selection of food items, we often had Frites to complement our meals. The pools are all manned by Lifeguards and I loved the fact the children’s area had a roof which could be closed on rainy days but also opened if the sun made a welcome appearance. The site shop has a large selection of items, and if you want to pick up something a little different the local Supermarket is great and only a small walk away. We thoroughly enjoyed days at the swimming lake which also has a bar beside it to get drinks and ice creams. If you would like to see the camp that we stayed at click here

Eurocamp fully met my expectations and we are now creating our own family memories to match my own as a child. We are travelling this Sunday to stay in Holland at another Eurocamp site. So keep your eyes peeled for a review on our experiences upon our return.

I hope you have enjoyed an insight into our trip to France. Have you ever holidayed with Eurocamp as a child or an adult?
