The Galgorm Thermal Village

The Galgorm Thermal Village

Last week we were kindly invited along to The Galgorm Thermal Village. Not often do we get to spend quality time together away from the home kid free and certainly not in such a luxurious setting.   Today I am going to be talking about our experiences and what was the perfect pamper day for parents.

The Perfect Pamper Day For Parents

The Galgorm Thermal Village

Included in our visit was a few hours relaxation in the Thermal Village, then lunch in Gillies which is located within the hotel. Having not been to the Galgorm in years I was blown away by the transformation. We stepped outside the lift and headed down the dimly lit hallway to the spa. I knew this was going to be a visit that I wouldn’t forget. We were greeted by a lovely lady in reception the duty manager also appeared and explained the layout of the spa and which areas to go to first. I will talk about this more in depth later on. In the reception, there are a few seating areas including sofas, tables and chairs. You can also purchase some products here that are used in the treatment rooms including my favourite brand at the minute Aromatherapy Associates.

Stuart and I separated at the changing room doors and went to get changed. The changing rooms themselves were amazing and very luxurious. Each visitor has their own locker which includes a towel, bathrobe, slippers and a bottle of water. At the sink area there is deodorant and mouthwash to allow a quick freshen up at the start or end of your visit. I was first out and lay down on one of the heated stone beds at the pool side. Stuart appeared camera equipment ready and we made our way outside to begin our day of relaxation.

We were extremely lucky to have visited the spa on a lovely sunny day, something we don’t get often in Ireland. So sunglasses on we made our way to the River House. The wooden built structure is located right at the water’s edge. Equipped with a number of seats we sat back and relaxed taking in the beautiful surroundings and watching the water ripple past. In the village there are a number of indoor and outdoor areas, meaning in extreme weather you have the advantage of heading inside.

The Orangery

By far my favourite indoor relaxation areas at the village. With multiple seating areas including swinging seats towards the rear of the building. The most relaxing of locations. Curl up with a book on the loungers or sit back and enjoy an infused drink of water in the swinging chairs. The design aspect of this area is incredible, so much thought has been put into creating an area of pure relaxation but also allowing you to look out over the village and beyond to river.

The Sanarium and Snow Cabin

As I mentioned earlier the duty manager explained to us about going into the heat and then the cold whilst using the indoor areas. I’m not a massive fan of extreme heat but the Sanarium was a perfect temperature for me. Split over multiple levels you can select an area to sit back and look out over the pool.

Being very inquisitive we couldn’t wait to move into the Snow Cabin. It was definitely an experience standing in the snow with my swim suit on but I really enjoyed my few minutes in the snow cabin.

The Hydrotherapy Pool

Located beside the Orangery the Hydrotherapy pool is exquisite. The pool is also home to another set of saunas and an aromatherapy room. Each of the saunas has varying degrees of heat, plus there is an ice feature where you can apply ice to your pressure points between sessions. Also in this section there are two snail showers which give mists and jets of cold water.

Stuart and I both spent a long time in this area, between the pool and the heated beds and in the saunas. This is, in fact, the older section of the Village, but one that we thoroughly enjoyed. On one side of the pool, there is an aqua bed which has jets to ease tired and aching muscles, the height of relaxation.

The Gardens and Outdoor Spa Areas

There are two garden areas in the village. One located beside the river and a new area which is just behind the new gym. Both are stunning and lovely areas to sit back and unwind. We spent a fair bit of time in the larger garden which is complete with wooden huts and heated relaxation chairs. There is also a covered seating area with a fire, table and adult colouring books. The perfect location to enjoy the beautiful well-kept gardens and chat or just let your mind wonder.

Eating in The Galgorm

There are multiple options for grabbing either a quick snack or having a larger meal when you visit. During our time in the Thermal Village, we visited Elements which is a domed building located to the right when you come from the larger pool. You can grab a light lunch all made on site or a coffee and a small tray bake to give you an added boost. Stuart and I opted for a coffee and a snack to see us through until our planned lunch time. With multiple seating areas including large sofas and tables with chairs, there is an array of options to sit back and relax. Some visitors had brought books in to read whilst eating alone, we sat and had a chat whilst admiring the surroundings.

Later on in our day, we visited Gillies which is located within the main hotel building. A beautiful restaurant with stunning artwork by a local designer. We opted for chicken burgers and fries with soft drinks. the waitresses were very attentive and our food was served very quickly. We loved the added touches of the sweets in our napkins, a cute after meal treat. The meal was very hot when it arrived which I love when dining out, we thoroughly enjoyed our choices and this was the perfect end to an amazing day at The Galgorm.

Final Thoughts

The Galgorm Thermal Village is the ultimate location for anyone wanting to relax or meet with friends. As parents who rarely get any time away together, this was an amazing treat for us. From the minute we arrived, we felt at ease and very welcomed. The thought put into the amenities is fantastic and no expense has been spared in creating the ultimate getaway break. I also think it would be the perfect gift for a loved one who has everything. Year after year I struggle buying my mum gifts as she has everything she needs, but this would be the perfect treat day for her. We can’t wait to go back again and possibly try some treatments on our next visit.

I have just read this in awe and almost pawing at the photos, longing to be there! Blissful. It looks wonderful, and exactly what you need to feel relaxed and having well earned time out. A really lovely looking place, with great facilities. Never been in a snow room, but the concept is a bit like The Roman idea of hot, then very cold.
